Race Doc

For 2020, COVID Guidelines will be posted here as the race draws closer.  We will observe all precautions to be sure our runners return home healthy, if a little sore.  More info to follow.

Paix Running is excited to be taking over the Danimal! This is a great race and we plan to stick close to its roots (pun intended), while bringing the family feel of Paix races along with us.

About the race
Nestled in the heart of Southwest Louisiana, Sam Houston Jones State Park consists mostly of single track, root rich dirt trails. This race is perfect for beginners and it is sure to challenge even the most seasoned runners. No Man's Land Trail Race is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 24, 2020. We will begin with a pre-race meeting at the main pavilion at 7:45 and the race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. For those wanting a more "relaxed" afternoon, we do have a 25K option and we even have a 1 loop option consisting of 7.78 miles for those of you who want to try trail running for the first time, or for more seasoned trail runners who want to finish sooner so they can get to the finish line food first.

Park Address

107 Sutherland Rd, Lake Charles, LA 70611

Start and Cutoff Time
All distances begin at 8:00 am, and the time cutoff for all distances is 4:00 pm.

We have a very strict cut off time of 8 hours imposed upon us by the park. This is one of the main reasons this race is extremely difficult for first time 50k ers. The Danimal historically had a 75-80% drop rate on the 50k. Everyone will have 8 hours to complete all three distances. If anyone does not finish within the cutoff time, they will receive a finishers award but will not have an official time recorded.

The trails will be open to the public so beware of cyclists, other runners, and bird watchers. Earphones are allowed, just be aware of your surroundings and courteous to other runners who might want to pass.

Race Morning
Every person entering the park must pay the $3.00 entry fee at the gate.  This is set by the state and goes a long way to supporting our beautiful parks.  The gate will open at 6:00 am.  If no one is at the gate to collect your entry fee, you will need to fill out a day use envelope and insert your $3.00 into the drop box.  Also, the park is very strict on the speed limit, please obey the posted speed.  Parking will be available by the pavilion and all along the river front.  DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS, THE RANGER WILL TICKET YOU!

Drop in Distance
If on race morning you decide to drop to a shorter distance, you must notify the race directors before the start of the race.  If you do not notify us and you drop to a lower distance during the race, you will receive a finisher's award for the distance completed but you will not be eligible for age group awards.

Awards

Awards will be given to the overall male and female in each distance and the 1st place male and female in each age group:  0-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and up. We will be keeping the coveted DFL (Dead Flippin' Last) award for each distance.  The awards will be handed out as soon as we verify the results with the timing company.  There will be no awards ceremony.  Don't leave without your award - they won't be mailed.

In keeping with the Danimal tradition, cash prizes will be awarded for the first male and first female at each distance.  Top male and female 50k finishers - $100 each, top male and female 25k finishers - $75 each, top male and female 7.8 mile finishers - $50 each. Cash will be given to winners at finish.  Anyone dropping to a shorter distance during the race will not be eligible for an award.

Check In

You will be considered checked in when you pick up your packet on race morning.  If you pick up a packet for someone who is not running, please let our timing crew know.

Check Out
If you have to drop out of the race for any reason - injury, left the iron on... LET OUR TIMING CREW KNOW! It never fails that we end up worrying about someone who is already home and showered and just didn't bother to tell a race official that they were leaving.

Race Bibs
Race bibs must be worn on the front of your body at all times.

Pacers
Pacers are allowed for the 50K runners only. Pacers can join their runner on the 3rd lap. NO MULING! Runners must carry their own hydration, food, etc. Only 1 pacer per runner at a time.

Course Marking
As with all Paix Running races, we will be using orange contractor flags to mark the course.  The flags should always be on your right side.  If you find them on your left side, you are going the wrong direction, turn around.

Route and Terrain
This course is a 7.78 mile loop which is pretty flat, but don't let that fool you.  There are plenty of roots to catch your feet if you get too cocky.

Dogs
Dogs are allowed in the park but must be leashed and well controlled.  Any reports of dogs off leash and the dog will have to be removed from the park, and the associated runner may be disqualified from the race.  I understand you love your dogs, I think they are pretty cool too, but this event is not for them, it is for the runners and their people.  If a dog gets in the way of the people, the dog will have to leave.

Crews
Crews are welcome to hang out at the start / finish during the race.  The aid station on the course is not accessible by vehicle, so we ask that no crews attempt to meet their runners on the course.

Aid Stations
We will have one fully equipped aid station half way through the course, as well at the start/finish for those of you doing more than one loop. Food will be served at the main pavilion/start,finish line after the race, so stick around and enjoy the company.

The aid stations will be fully stocked with typical trail race food - sweet and salty snacks, fruit, pb&j, broth, etc.  We will also have plenty of water, ice and Gatorade.  As always, if you have a particular dietary need, please plan to provide your own food.

Payment Policy
No refunds.
No rollovers to the next year.
No transfers to another person.
No mailing of shirts or packets before or after the event, even if you offer to pay shipping.  A friend can pick up your packet for you, though.

Littering
Do I even have to say it?  Don't litter. If a runner is witnessed deliberately littering, they will be disqualified and publicly shamed.  Unless your mom is running behind you cleaning up your mess, carry your trash to the next aid station.

Music
Earbuds are welcome, just be aware of your surroundings and courteous to other runners who may be trying to get around you.

Packet Pickup
Packets can be picked up from 6:30 - 7:45 am on race morning at the start/finish.

Shirts
All shirts are pre-stuffed into your packet.  We will make every effort to be sure that runners registering by the cutoff date get the size shirt they requested.  We can not swap your size at packet pickup.  If we have extra shirts after all of the packets are picked up, you may be able to swap out your size or buy additional shirts.  TSHIRT CUTOFF DATE IS SEPTEMBER 25, 2020.
